DCWV Berry Street Farmer’s Market

DCWV Berry Street Farmer’s Market

Since we’re stuck in the house I wanted to use some bright cheerful paper.  For my next few projects I am doing smaller batches of general cards.  I pulled out 3 sheets of paper from the Farmer’s Market 12×12 paper pad.  I thought the red gingham and the teal polka dots would make good backgrounds and the small floral print would work well as the focal point.  For a solid color I added kraft cardstock and used teal cardstock for all the matting.  I made at least 2 cards with each layout, some were identical and others (like in the last photo) swapped the gingham and polka dot prints.

To get started I used a sketch one of my favorite YouTube cardmakers had recently used.

With only 3 pieces of pattern paper to work with, I tried to use all of the scrap pieces.  The gingham strip on this card was leftover when I cut the larger gingham piece on the previous card.  For some embellishment, I added a couple teal brads that had been floating around in my craft room for ages.

After a few cards with the gingham I switched to the polka dots.  I went through my scraps and found a couple pieces of red cardstock that coordinated with the red in the floral paper.

For this card I pulled out a scalloped border die.  I thought the scallop would coordinate well with the pattern paper’s country theme.  This ended up being my favorite card.

I still had a few larger pieces of the gingham and polka dot papers but only smaller pieces of the floral print.  I found a sketch that worked perfectly with the paper I had left.

Since I still had all of my Halloween stamps and embellishments out, I decided to do one more Halloween paper pad.

The paper pad had 2 sheets of 1 1/2 x 2 inch sentiment cut-aparts.  The cut-aparts were all very cute so I decided to challenge myself to use as many of them as possible.

One of my favorite cut-aparts was the “Got Candy?” sentiment.  The paper pad included a candy print paper so that was easy.

The spiderweb print paper was a bit busy so I kept it the only printed paper on the card.  The cut-apart had a cute sentiment and a small spider image.  For some color I used orange cardstock and some orange rhinestones on the spider die cuts.

I also liked the “31” sentiment which had a spider hanging from the “3”.  I added a few die cut spiders, orange and purple rhinestones and silver and black Love from Lizi peel-offs.

There were still several cut-aparts left.  I found a sketch that would work with the cut-aparts and the remaining 6×6 paper.

I still had several sheets of 6×6 paper but they seemed more like backgrounds than focal points.  I pulled out a larger Halloween stamp, a haunted house, and used it as the focal point with a smaller sentiment.  I didn’t want to add any color, so used a silver holographic Love from Lizi peel-off to separate the printed papers.

With the cards from this paper pad I now have over 100 Halloween cards complete.  I think this is enough to donate and I’m ready to move on to something new.

Halloween Paper

Halloween Paper

When I was pulling out supplies for my last batch of cards I came across several 4 1/2 by 6 pieces of Halloween paper.  I believe it is from Recollections but the paper pad cover is long gone.  Since I was already making Halloween cards I decided to use up these few sheets of paper.

The papers were all Halloween themed but not easily combined.  I ended up using several non-Halloween papers for many of the backgrounds.

I really liked the new-to-me card sketch I used with the previous paper pad and decided to use it again.  I combined the Halloween print with a black and purple background paper and bright green cardstock.

The orange spider print paper was very busy.  I decided to keep it simple using a tone-on-tone black/gray print paper for the background.  For an embellishment I used the spider die to add a spider on the sentiment panel.

My favorite card was actually the last card I made.  I was able to use up several of the smaller pieces of scrap paper and some black and white bakers twine.

I kept the embellishments to a minimum using scalloped paper borders, die cuts and bakers twine.

I didn’t feel like trying to find coordinating cardstock and since black cardstock would match just about everything Halloween I pulled out a Halloween paper pad.  I know it’s out of season but I’ll be way ahead on my holiday cards for donation.  Yay!

The paper is a 6×6 pad I picked up after Halloween last year.  The papers only included black, white, orange and silver metallic colors so I was able to use black and a few sheets of orange and purple cardstock for matting and backgrounds.  By mixing in some paper from an old 12×12 Halloween paper pad (that I’ve been trying to use up for ages), I was able to make 34 cards.

One of my favorites and the first card I made used a haunted house image.  The image was in the bottom right corner of a 6×6 paper.  By cutting the paper into 4 3×3 pieces I was able to use not only the haunted house but the other pieces as well.

Another favorite was created using the remaining 3×3 pieces from the previous card.  Since the pieces were mostly white with a border around 2 sides, I used them for the sentiment panel.  The “happy Halloween” sentiment fit perfectly in the blank space.

I decided to try a new-to-me card sketch for the next cards and really liked them as I was able to combine 2 printed papers on each card.

I liked the black and silver stripped paper and wanted to stretch it to as many cards as possible.  I pulled out a go-to layout where I could use a smaller piece of the stripped paper along the bottom edge of the card.  Keeping with the printed paper, I die cut a couple spiders and added them to the sentiment panel.

I ended up with several pieces that were about 1 3/4 to 2 inches wide and 5 1/2 inches long.  By using some 12×12 paper for the background I was able to use up these pieces and make several cards.

In addition to the printed paper I used several sheets of black, orange, purple and gray cardstock.  I also used some Love from Lizi peel-offs and a few dies (pumpkins, spiders, scallops) for embellishment.
