2 Sheet Wonder

2 Sheet Wonder

It’s not a one sheet wonder, but…

One of my favorite YouTubers recently did the Mojo Monday 6×6 2 sheet wonder challenge.  I’m not usually a “1 sheet wonder” person, but her cards turned out really cute so I decided to give it a try.

I didn’t want to start a “new” 6×6 paper pad so pulled out my old go-to 6×6 paper pad – ColorBok Carnival.  I swear it’s the never ending paper pad.  The challenge used 2 sheets of double sided paper.  Since the ColorBok paper is single sided I pulled out 4 sheets so I’d still have 4 different patterns to work with.  And I’d be able to make 6 cards instead of 3.

The first set of papers included a teal cloud print, a yellow lattice print, a multi-color dot print and a multi-color stripe.  Bright yellow cardstock was used for the background on 2 of the cards and navy blue was used for all the matting and stamped sentiments.  After much rearranging I had the paper combinations selected and got started assembling the cards.

The first 2 cards went together exactly as the card sketch indicated.

For the next 2 cards I did a little “tweaking” to make the sketch work.  Because I had selected a larger sentiment I needed to modify the vertical panel.  As only the very top and very bottom of the panel will be seen, I cut the panel in half with the gap being hidden behind the sentiment panel.  To fill up a bit of the white space on the sentiment panel I added a few epoxy dots.

The last 2 cards used the yellow cardstock as the background.  When looking at the cards before taping them together, the background looked too “flat”.  Dry embossing the background in a Swiss polka dot print added just enough.

I really liked how the cards turned out and decided to make another batch.  This time I pulled out a green/white dot print, a teal/navy dot print, a multi-color chevron print and a multi-color check print.  I used green and pearlescent white cardstock for the backgrounds on 2 cards and navy and green cardstock for all the matting.  The sentiments were again stamped using navy ink.

This was an easy way to get several cards done quickly.  And would be a great way to use up the last couple sheets of a 6×6 paper pad.  Now to get ready for my mystery box.

Challenge – Cards in Envy Final Challenge

Challenge – Cards in Envy Final Challenge

I hadn’t done a card challenge in awhile so thought I’d see what the latest challenge is at Cards in Envy.  I was really sad to see that the current challenge is the last.

As I’ve been working on Valentine cards, I decided to stay with that theme.  I changed the circles on the sketch to hearts.  I embossed the background paper and used some paper ribbon for the strip across the card.

Supplies include:

  • Recollections Better Together 12×12 paper pad
  • Recollections cardstock
  • White 110lb paper (card base)
  • Firefly Nested Hearts dies
  • K & Company paper ribbon
  • Recollections brads
  • ATG tape
  • double sided foam tape

Challenge – Favorite Holiday

Challenge – Favorite Holiday

My favorite holiday is Thanksgiving.  I get to spend time with family without the snow, shopping and stress of Christmas.

For the Cards in Envy Favorite Holiday challenge I created this card.

I dug through my stash and pulled out some paper from an old Recollections paper pad (Harvest Delight) that I’d been saving.  I don’t know about you, but I have a ton of paper that is just “too pretty” to use.  I cut the printed papers and matted them with some rust cardstock.  While looking through supplies and trying to decide if I should emboss the sentiment, I found a small jar of bronze micro beads.  These are another of the “too pretty to use” stash items.  I decided to skip the embossing and instead add the micro beads to a few of the leaves on the sentiment.  They added a bit of sparkle without the bulk of sequins or brads.

Challenge – Stripes & Dots

Challenge – Stripes & Dots

I really liked the Double D Stripes and Dots challenge.  I had just started using the Pebbles Family Ties 6×6 paper pad and it included a few sheets of polka dot and stripe pattern papers.  Although the paper is not nautical themed, I thought the blue gave the papers a nautical feel.

The first card uses a very simple layout.  I cut the dots and stripes paper and matted them on navy cardstock.  To separate the papers I wrapped the card with some tan and white bakers twine.  The lighthouse image is stamped using Ranger Archival Ink in Cobalt.  I matted this on navy cardstock and popped up the image with foam tape.  The card seemed a little bare, so I added a couple navy blue enamel dots to the upper right corner.

The second card uses Operation Write Home sketch #34.  I used the same papers, ink and stamp.  The pattern papers and image are all matted on navy cardstock.  The image is popped up with foam tape.  To break up the stripes a bit, I added the small blue flag to the top left corner.

Snowmen

Snowmen

A week or so ago, I submitted a card to the Use Your Stuff Enamel Dots challenge.

Since I still had enamel dots and plenty of paper, I decided to create a couple more cards.  Once I cut a sheet of paper, I like to use as much of it as possible to limit scraps as they accumulate quickly and end up just sitting in the scrap box unused.  For the challenge card I had cut the 12×12 inch sheet of snowman printed paper into a 12 x 5 3/8 inch strip so I still had enough of the strip to make 2 more cards.

I used sketch #165 from My Favorite Things for the next card.  I used some coordinating snowflake paper for the circle, added a strip of silver glitter washi tape and die cut a snowflake using the Cricut Accent Essentials cartridge.  In keeping with the challenge, I added a couple enamel dots to the snowflake paper and also the center of the die cut snowflake.

This card is based on sketch #157 from My Favorite Things.   To “soften” the sketch, I rounded all of the corners.  I used the snowflake paper for the background and added a small strip from the snowman paper.  The sentiment is stamped in VersaFine Onxy Black ink using the “Happy Holidays!” stamp from the Fiskars Merry and Bright stamp set.

I still have half a sheet of both the snowman and the snowflake paper.  Since I want to avoid partial snowmen, some of the smaller scraps are no longer useable.

Challenge – Yellow Photo

Challenge – Yellow Photo

I saw this challenge on the Addicted to Stamps and More blog and immediately thought of the lemon printed paper I have.

The printed papers and stamp are from the Recollections Coastal Village collection.  The yellow cardstock is from a Craft Smith yellow and orange 12×12 paper pad.  All of the layers are matted with Recollections black cardstock.  The sentiment is stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink.  As there is a little gold embossing on the lemon paper, I added a few gold sequins for a bit more shine.

Challenge – Fall/Autumn Mood

Challenge – Fall/Autumn Mood

I created this card for the Use Your Stuff fall/autumn mood challenge.

In the spirit of using my stuff, I pulled out some printed paper that has been in my stash for years.  I know it’s from Creative Memories, but have no idea when I got it.  I added some gold washi tape to the edges of the paper.  The “Fall” sentiment is from the Scrappy Cat Fall Icon set and is stamped with VersaMark ink and then heat embossed with gold embossing powder.  To finish it, I added a couple gold sequins.

Challenge – Enamel Dots

Challenge – Enamel Dots

This week I found the Use Your Stuff blog.  It seemed like a match since I end up with more stuff than I can possibly use.  This weeks challenge was to use enamel dots.  Here’s what I came up with.

The dots are from a package of multi-colored sparkly enamel dots.  I was able to use most of the enamel dots but was having trouble with the purple-ish dots.  The color is not a true purple, but somewhere between a purple and a dark pink.  I went through my paper collection and found some older Christmas paper from the Recollections Jingle Jolly collection.  The dots matched the hats on the little snowmen.  I used another piece of paper from the same collection for the vertical strip and added the dots to the centers of the snowflakes.

Challenge – Monochrome

Challenge – Monochrome

This week I decided to try the Always Fun Challenges “Monochrome” card challenge.

I really like the clean look of black and white cards and as Christmas is coming…  I decided to do a black and white Christmas card.

I’ve had the snowman stamp in my collection for several years and it is one of my favorites.  I think it looks great “plain” or also colored using Copic markers or colored pencils, depending on the look I’m going for.  The cardstock (black and white) and polka dot paper are from Recollections.  The swirl pattern paper is from The Paper Studio – B&W Intricate Swirls.  I used VersaMark watermark ink and white embossing powder to emboss the snowflake and sentiment which are from the Fiskars Merry and Bright stamp set.  I matted all the layers and finished by popping up the snowflake and sentiment using foam tape.

Challenge – Thank You and Pink/Grey

Challenge – Thank You and Pink/Grey

I had a lot of fun working on the last card challenge, so I thought I’d try a couple more.

The CAS on Friday challenge is to create a Thank You card and the CAS-ual Fridays challenge is to create a pink and grey card.  Since they are both “clean and simple” challenges, I thought I’d combine them.

Here is the card I created.

I used the Spellbinders Wagonwheel Kaleidoscope die to cut the bright pink paper and glued this to the card front.  I stamped “Thanks” in Tsukineko VersaFine Smokey Gray ink and then embossed it with clear embossing powder.  To add a bit more gray to the card, I cut a thin strip of gray cardstock and glued it to the left and right of the sentiment.
